Lee County man accused of violating probation after arrest for renting out a home he didn't own

LEE COUNTY, Fla. —

A Lee County man is accused of violating his probation after pleading guilty to a fraud scheme where he rented out a house he did not own.

According to Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, Scott Bloomer, 45, was hired to do a repair job at a Fort Myers home while the owner was out of state. After completing the job, Bloomer put a "For Rent" sign in front of the house, with his number on it.

Bloomer then got a quick response from a renter and took a $1,500 deposit for the first month's rent, Crime Stoppers said. A few weeks after the renter moved in, the actual homeowner was alerted to the activity and called the police.

Bloomer was arrested and spent one day in jail before eventually pleading guilty to the fraud scheme. He was placed on 36 months of probation.

Crime Stoppers said Bloomer violated the terms of his probation earlier this month when he tested positive for fentanyl in his system.

Bloomer is 6'1" and weighs 220 pounds.
