24 pounds of methamphetamine, 3.5 pounds of cocaine, over $41,000 in cash and more were seized from a car during the execution of an arrest warrant at the Economy Inn in Arcadia, according to the DeSoto County Sheriff's Office.
DeSoto County deputies say that their Narcotics Unit petitioned for arrest warrants for Imamu Gilchrist, 54, in connection to narcotics sales. The warrants were granted, and last week Gilchrist was taken into custody.
During Gilchrist's arrest, deputies say they caught the scent of marijuana coming from his car. Detectives used a K-9 to sniff the vehicle, and based on the eventual alert and other probable causes, they searched his vehicle.
During the search, deputies say they found the following in Gilchrist's car:
DCSO says all suspected narcotics were field tested separately and garnered positive results for methamphetamine or cocaine.
In total, deputies say they seized approximately $41,000 in U.S. currency, 24.619 pounds of methamphetamine, 3.5 pound of cocaine and a half-pound of crack cocaine. DCSO says the street value of the seized narcotics is approximately $148,000.
Gilchrist faces charges of selling controlled substances near a school or park, possession of drug equipment, among others.
