5 suspects linked to crime spree including vehicle theft, burglaries across Cape Coral

CAPE CORAL, Fla. —

Cape Coral police used drones, K9 units, and aerial support to track down five suspects, including three juveniles, tied to vehicle burglaries, a stolen SUV, and other crimes across the city on Wednesday morning.

Police responded to a southwest Cape Coral neighborhood after receiving reports of a vehicle burglary in progress. According to the Cape Coral Police Department, the neighborhood experienced a string of similar crimes.

With aerial support from the Lee County Sheriff's Office, K9 units, and CCPD drone teams, officers were able to catch multiple suspects who fled and tried to hide in nearby homes.

CCPD said officers found several suspects hiding in yards and within a screened lanai of an occupied residence. CCPD's drones tracked the suspects as they moved through open fields and into backyards.

Xavier Charles Derisma, 18, and Jeramy Lee Thompson, 21, were identified as two of the five suspects arrested. Cape Coral police did not release the identities of the three juveniles who were arrested in connection with this investigation.

According to the CCPD news release, Derisma was identified as the suspect who burglarized two vehicles during this investigation and was caught on a victim's surveillance footage. Police said Derisma stole cash and gift cards from the vehicle.

Police also linked Derisma to a previously reported vehicle theft on May 23, in which a 2020 black Chevrolet Trax was stolen in Cape Coral. The stolen vehicle was recovered on May 26 in a vacant lot after two individuals were seen abandoning it.

According to police, evidence, including ankle monitor data and vehicle tracking data, was enough to establish probable cause to charge Derisma with grand theft of a motor vehicle.

Derisma was previously arrested in April 2025 after reportedly grabbing a gun from a car after an argument outside of the Marquee Cinemas movie theater along Del Prado Boulevard, leading to the theater being evacuated.

Last month, Derisma was arrested again after being accused of shooting a gun in a neighborhood near Northeast 15th Lane and Northeast 8th Place. Police said Derisma claimed he fired the gun to protect his girlfriend during a dispute.

Derisma is facing numerous charges, including the following:

• 1 count of unarmed burglary of an occupied dwelling, a second-degree felony
• 1 count of resisting without violence, a second-degree misdemeanor
• 1 count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a first-degree misdemeanor
• 2 counts of unarmed burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, a third-degree felony
• 1 count of petit theft, a second-degree misdemeanor
• 1 count of grand theft of a motor vehicle, a third-degree felony

Derisma was also booked on two active Lee County warrants. One warrant was related to a weapons offense with revocation of pretrial supervision, and the other was a juvenile abscond/battery warrant.

Thompson is facing charges of loitering or prowling and resisting without violence, both of which are second-degree misdemeanors.

One of the juveniles is facing charges of unarmed burglary of an occupied dwelling, resisting without violence, tampering with an electronic monitoring device, and violation of probation. According to CCPD, the juvenile has an active warrant for child absconding.

As for the other two, they were arrested on charges of loitering or prowling and resisting without violence.
