'Beautiful soul': Immokalee family mourns mom killed in Port LaBelle home shooting

IMMOKALEE, Fla. (WINK)—The family of a mother killed inside her own Port LaBelle home is coming together to honor her memory on what would have been her 35th birthday.

In March of last year, Priscilla Hallihan's family says she was sitting on her couch when investigators say a bullet came through her living room window. Now, as her loved ones prepare for an emotional vigil in Immokalee, they say they're still waiting for justice as the case continues to face delays in court.

"Happy birthday mom we all love you," Briana, Hallihan's daughter, said.

Family members said the last year has been incredibly difficult.

What should have been a birthday celebration is instead a night of remembrance for Hallihan's family. Loved ones gathered at Hallihan's gravesite in Immokalee for a vigil honoring her life and memory as a mother of four.

"It's her birthday, and this is the only way that we could spend time with her, and actually be with her, and this is the way that these kids actually see their mom." Aimee Hallihan, Priscilla's sister, said. "They come out here, and this is her garden, and this is how they get to spend time with their mom."

Her family says they continue to struggle with both the emotional loss and the slow pace of the court process but still never miss any holiday or celebration with Priscilla. Aimee Hallihan said the loss has been especially hard on their mother and the entire family.

"This is how we have to deal with everything and maintain everything. She was my mom's first child, I'm the second, so it's like real hard on my mom, and you know, and hard on us, because she was the one that we looked up to," Aimee said.

Priscilla's light will never stop shining, especially for her daughter.

"She was a beautiful soul. She was like, she was a beautiful soul to us," Briana said. "It's like hard for us, because like we're going through stuff without her…life is hard without her, so we can't really get stuff really done without her."

The family says they are going to continue to push for justice while they wait for their day in court.
