Cape Coral launches survey for feedback on the Cape Coral Parkway widening project

CAPE CORAL, Fla. —

Cape Coral Parkway is undergoing a road widening project that has caused traffic delays, tree removals, and blocked sidewalks, prompting city leaders to ask residents for input on its future.

Crews began removing dozens of oak trees along the parkway last week as part of the project to expand the road from four lanes to six through downtown Cape Coral.

Many residents and businesses were not happy with the tree removal. An arborist on-site reassured residents that it was necessary since the root systems of some trees were damaging sidewalks and underground infrastructure. The city added that many of the trees were planted too close to the roadway, no longer meeting Florida safety standards.

The construction has drawn attention and frustration, with sidewalks blocked off, traffic slowed, and some businesses reporting that customers are struggling to navigate the construction zone.

City leaders say the goal of the project is to create a safer road for everyone while addressing the city's rapid growth.

To help shape the long-term future of Cape Coral Parkway, the city has launched an online survey. The survey asks residents how they use the parkway, where they experience traffic, flooding, or safety issues, and what improvements they would like to see. The study also examines walkability, biking, transit access, and how the corridor can better support local businesses and future development.

The survey runs through June 30, and the city says the feedback will help develop possible redesign options to be presented later this summer. Click here for the survey.
