Charlotte County woman accused of fleeing traffic stop at 110 mph before crashing into ditch

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. —

A woman was arrested in Charlotte County on Tuesday after being accused of fleeing from a traffic stop at speeds of over 100 mph.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office arrest report, a deputy was driving east on Duncan Road in the area of Pinegrove Circle when they saw a black Nissan Sentra weaving back and forth in its lane.

The deputy ran the Sentra's license plate and discovered that the registered owner of the car, Valerie Turner, 33, had a suspended license on account of a DUI, the report said.

The deputy turned on their emergency lights and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Turner. Instead of pulling over, Turner sped away from the deputy at speeds of up to 110 mph, the report said.

The deputy began to pursue Turner, who failed to slow down while entering a curve and crashed the car into a ditch, the report said. Turner then got out of the car and ran from the scene of the crash.

The deputy yelled for Turner to stop, but she continued to run before falling down, the report said. The deputy was able to apprehend Turner after she fell.

Turner was transported to the hospital, where she told the deputy that she was driving to a friend's house and fled from the deputy because she was on probation and did not want to violate it, the report said. After being medically cleared, she was placed under arrest.

Turner faces charges of fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage, driving while license suspended, resisting an officer without violence and violation of probation.
