Man accused of pulling gun, threatening victims at Regal Naples theater

NAPLES, Fla. —

A man was arrested in Naples after allegedly pulling a gun on two people outside the Regal Theater off Airport Pulling Road just after midnight Tuesday.

Carlos Pagan, a Naples resident, described the incident as "unexpected."

Lydia Watkins, also from Naples, said, "So scary, because why are you bringing your gun to the movie theater? It's a place where we go for enjoyment and laughs. Why are we bringing a gun at all?"

Witnesses told Collier County deputies they saw Alberto Guerra-Velazquez arguing with a woman in front of the theater. When they told Guerra-Velazquez to leave her alone, he allegedly pulled a gun from his bag, racked it, and pointed it at them. The victims ran for safety, and Guerra-Velazquez left the scene in a Cadillac.

"It's better to speak up because there is the bystander effect, and sometimes nobody speaks up at all," Watkins said. "So better to speak up, but also be safe. Be aware of your surroundings. Assess the situation before you approach."

A deputy later pulled Guerra-Velazquez over near Airport Pulling Road and Pine Ridge Road. Authorities found a loaded Smith & Wesson handgun and a 16-round magazine in his possession and arrested him.
