Multiple brush fires reported after storms move through Charlotte County

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — Charlotte County officials responded to multiple brush fires believed to have been sparked by lightning strikes Sunday evening.

According to Charlotte County Fire & EMS, crews were first dispatched at 4:57 p.m. to Orange Blossom Boulevard for a brush fire. Additional calls came in at 4:58 p.m. on Oil Well Road and at 5:01 p.m. near U.S. 41 and Zemel Road.

Officials said the fire on Oil Well Road has since been extinguished. Crews responding to the call near U.S. 41 and Zemel Road were unable to locate an active fire.

Firefighters continue working the blaze on Orange Blossom Boulevard, which officials estimate is about four acres in size.

No injuries or structural damage have been reported in any of the incidents. Officials said the fires are believed to have been caused by lightning strikes linked to strong thunderstorms in the area.

Charlotte County Fire & EMS is working alongside the Florida Forest Service and Bayshore Fire Rescue to contain the fires.
