What drivers need to know before Pine Ridge Road's diverging diamond opens Monday

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. —

Drivers in Collier County should prepare for major traffic changes this weekend as the Florida Department of Transportation moves the I-75 and Pine Ridge Road interchange into its final diverging diamond configuration.

The traffic shift is scheduled to begin Friday night and will require multiple closures and detours throughout the weekend.

Starting Friday, May 29, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., motorists can expect intermittent closures of the southbound I-75 on-ramp and the northbound I-75 off-ramp at Exit 107.

Then, beginning at 11 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday, Pine Ridge Road underneath I-75 will be completely closed in both directions for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.

Several turning movements will also be affected during the closure, including the left turn from the northbound I-75 off-ramp to westbound Pine Ridge Road and the left turn from the southbound I-75 off-ramp to eastbound Pine Ridge Road.

FDOT says the closures are necessary to shift traffic into the new diverging diamond interchange.

Under the new design, drivers will briefly cross to the left side of the road as they travel through the interchange before crossing back to the right side. The design allows vehicles to make left turns onto I-75 without crossing oncoming traffic.

According to FDOT, the goal is to improve safety, reduce congestion and keep traffic moving more efficiently through one of Collier County's busiest interchanges.

Some drivers say they expect a learning curve once the new traffic pattern opens.

"They're kind of scary if you don't know how to use them. They can be a blessing and a curse," Naples resident Melissa Colosimo said.

FDOT says the Pine Ridge Road interchange will use pavement markings, traffic signals and signage to guide drivers through the new traffic pattern.

The new diverging diamond interchange is expected to open to traffic at 6 a.m. Monday, June 1.

While the traffic shift marks a major milestone in the project, construction is not finished. FDOT says crews will continue working on sidewalks, barriers, lighting, paving, signage and other improvements through mid-2027.

Drivers are encouraged to follow posted detour signs and allow extra travel time throughout the weekend.
