A Fort Myers man has been sentenced to more than five years in federal prison following a guilty plea on charges of possessing a gun as a convicted felon.

James Marshall, 32, was sentenced by a United States district judge on Friday and will serve five years and 10 months in federal prison, a news release said.

Marshall pleaded guilty on February 11. According to court documents, on June 12, 2025, Marshall was stopped by Fort Myers police officers for driving on a suspended license.

During a search of Marshall's vehicle, officers found a pistol under the driver's seat. Due to Marshall's status as a convicted felon, he was not legally allowed to own the gun.
