Juvenile manatee found with chronic open lesions was rescued from Tween Waters Marina on Captiva

CAPTIVA, Fla. —

A young manatee was found emaciated near Tween Waters Marina on Captiva Friday afternoon.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said the 6.8-foot male manatee was thin, had chronic open lesions on his back, and struggled to stay buoyant.

FWC's marine mammal rescue team was able to rescue the manatee with help from the Lee County Sheriff's Office and the Cape Coral Police Department.

According to FWC, the manatee was transported to ZooTampa for treatment.
