New 'Weathering the Storm' episode tells powerful stories of survival after Hurricane Ian

A new episode of “Weathering the Storm” takes viewers back to one of the most devastating disasters in Southwest Florida history.

“Surviving Hurricane Ian,” now available on the Very Local Gulf Coast app, explores the destruction left behind by Hurricane Ian and the extraordinary stories of survival that emerged in its aftermath.

When Ian slammed into Southwest Florida's Gulf Coast in September 2022, the powerful storm reshaped entire communities. Homes were destroyed, neighborhoods were flooded and lost,and families were forced to make life-or-death decisions as storm surge swept through coastal areas.

The episode follows the experiences of people who lived through the hurricane, sharing firsthand accounts of fear, uncertainty and perseverance. As communities struggled to reconnect with loved ones and begin the long recovery process, neighbors, first responders and volunteers stepped up to help those in need.
