Marine dies while helping truck driver in Collier County I-75 crash

Jonathan Garcia Arias is the good Samaritan who lost his life on I-75 in Collier County on Sunday morning. His family members shared photos of the 25-year-old with Gulf Coast News.

Jonathan's sister said he served in the Marine Corps. He's known for his humor, kindness, and selfless nature.

Drivers are heartbroken after learning Jonathan and two teens lost their lives in this crash.

"I'm feeling sad for the families. So sorry. Pray for everybody," said Jacklyn Bacheo.

The Florida Highway Patrol says Jonathan pulled over to help after a box truck overturned in the middle of I-75 near the Pine Ridge Road exit. Troopers say a Tesla later slammed into the truck and hit Jonathan while he was on the interstate.

The two passengers in the Tesla, an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old, both from Naples, died at the scene. Four others were also injured.

"That starts with your initial assessment of where you put your car or where you put yourself, so that you can be a benefit and help someone who is in dire need," said Lt. Gregory Bueno with the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP says this crash is still under investigation.
