A Port Charlotte man was arrested on May 27 after being accused of threatening to kill Congressman and candidate for Florida governor, Byron Donalds.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office report, on May 26, the Threat Management Unit of Pinellas County was notified of a request from the U.S. Capitol Police regarding threats to kill Donalds.

The threats were posted by an X account belonging to Dominic Ambrosia, 30, CCSO's report said.

The original post came from President Donald Trump, who posted an endorsement of Donalds. Another account reposted the endorsement, stating, "He will not let you down! Thank you, Mr. President."

The CCSO report said that Ambrosia then replied to the repost, saying, "I'm going to kill him! Thanks Mr. President."

Detectives launched an investigation of Ambrosia's X account and noted several other concerning posts, the report said. One post regarding Donalds said, "I told you I don't want you as my Governor or any other Position of Power! I do not trust [expletive]! Don't forget segregation..."

In another post, Ambrosia wrote, "I killed Jesus! I murdered the Virgin Mary," the report said.

Detectives located an address for Ambrosia, and when attempting to make contact, they were informed that he lived in a travel camper at the back of the property. On May 27, detectives searched Ambrosia's trailer with his permission.

He was arrested and faces a charge of written or electronic threats to kill, do bodily injury or conduct a mass shooting or act of terrorism.
