Fire breaks out along I-75 in Charlotte County south of Tuckers Grade exit

A car burst into flames after crashing into a trailer along northbound I-75 near mile marker 156, just south of the Tuckers Grade exit in Charlotte County.

Flames could be seen coming from a wooded area along I-75 Tuesday morning. Cameras showed what appeared to be a car within the flames.

The Florida Highway Patrol said that a Toyota Corolla driven by a 26-year-old man was traveling north on the right lane of I-75, and a Volvo semitruck with a tank trailer was traveling north in the middle lane.

The driver of the Corolla veered left and entered the middle lane, crashing into the back trailer portion of the semitruck, FHP said. The driver of the Corolla then veered right, drove off the roadway and into the woods. The car then erupted into flames.

The 26-year-old man sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.

As of 6 a.m., the fire has been extinguished.
