Second man accused of violent threats toward Rep. Byron Donalds

LEE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — The Lee County Sheriff's Office arrested a 43-year-old man who allegedly threatened to blow up the office of Congressman Byron Donalds and shoot law enforcement officers.

A Port Charlotte man was taken into custody last Wednesday and is accused of sending a written threat to commit bodily injury to Donalds.

Daniel Eberly called Donald's office on Monday, threatening to "blow up headquarters" and "shoot every cop," according to Sheriff Carmine Marceno. Detectives took Eberly into custody within hours of the alleged threat.

"Frankly, that phone call was the investigative equivalent of a self-addressed stamped envelope," Marceno said.

Eberly was charged with false report of a weapon of mass destruction and corruption by threatening a public servant.
