According to Florida Highway Patrol, the 17-year-old was riding an e-bike at Coliseum Boulevard and Wilmington Boulevard, near South McCall Road, when he was hit by Angelica Clark, 33. Clark then drove away, FHP said.
Clark said she was unsure of what she hit, and thought it might have been an animal, the FHP arrest report said. Clark said she stopped and looked in the rearview mirror, but didn't see anything and drove home.
Clark was arrested on May 31.
FHP provided an update on the investigation into the crash on Wednesday, saying that it is now being investigated as a fatal hit-and-run crash after the 17-year-old died at Sarasota Memorial Hospital on Tuesday.
