Florida Rep presents “The Queen of Bingo” in Fort Myers

Florida Repertory Theatre will showcase the comedy “The Queen of Bingo” from May 27 to June 14 at the ArtStage Studio Theatre, featuring interactive bingo games and comedic performances.

Written by Jeanne Michels and Phyllis Murphy, the show follows two sisters, ‘Sis’ and ‘Babe,’ as they seek fun and excitement in their lives through bingo. The production explores themes such as family ties, diet crazes, widowhood, hot flashes, and the thrill of winning.

The two men tasked with playing the sisters joined "Gulf Coast News Today" for a behind- the-curtain peek at the show.

Audiences can participate in the “Middle Bird Special,” a real bingo game during the show where one lucky attendee wins a free 10-pound frozen turkey at every performance.

“This sidesplittingly funny show is a wonderful treat for not only bingo fans, but for fans of good old-fashioned comedy,” said Greg Longenhagen, Florida Rep’s producing artistic director. “The male cast play these characters not as drag queens, but as distinctive, individual, and incredibly hilarious women.”

Performances of “The Queen of Bingo” will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with 2 p.m. matinees from Wednesday through Sunday.
