Our friends at the IMAG History and Science Center in Fort Myers shared more about the vital role the Madagascar hissing cockroach plays in our planet's ecosystem.
IMAG's animal caretakers showcased a few Madagascar hissing cockroaches from the animal lab. The cockroaches have tiny holes on their sides that they blow air out of and the sound resembles a hiss.
These cockroaches are detritivores in the wild; however, they are given a more omnivorous diet at IMAG. To cover their protein needs, IMAG's caretakers give them cat food to avoid feeding them decaying matter.
