A Marco Island man was arrested on Monday after being accused of breaking into a condo, stabbing the TV with a knife, and stealing multiple items.
According to the Marco Island Police Department arrest report, the victim was returning to their condo on Sunday and noticed that their TV had been stabbed with a knife over nine times. The victim's bedding and mattress had also been slashed with a knife in an X pattern, leaving them completely damaged.
The victim also noted that their Lululemon purse containing credit and debit cards, identification, $300 in cash and an iPhone was stolen, the report said. Additional items taken from the condo included a coffee pot, a knife block, a pickleball paddle and a pair of cowboy boots.
The victim's son used his phone to check the location of the stolen iPhone, which was found to be at the home of Shawn Long, 55, according to MIPD.
Long was known to the victim and texted the victim's son that he would like to meet up in order to return the stolen phone, the report said.
Long then said he returned the phone to the victim's daughter and was then spotted by officers traveling in the area of Heathwood Drive, the report said. Officers conducted a traffic stop on Long and arrested him.
Long faces charges of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, grand theft of property and criminal mischief.
