CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK)— A delivery driver is being recognized as a hero after rescuing a resident from a house fire in Cape Coral.
Cape Coral firefighters responded to a structure fire in the 2200 block of SW 12th Place just after 6 p.m., according to a Cape Coral Fire Department Facebook post. When crews arrived, they found the resident safely outside the home thanks to the quick actions of Adam Cannon.
Adam was making a delivery a few houses away when he noticed smoke and heard someone calling for help. Without hesitation, he rushed to the home and assisted the resident in getting out safely.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. Despite their resuscitation efforts, a dog and a cat inside the home did not survive.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
In recognition of his selfless actions, Cannon was presented with a Community Recognition Coin. His willingness to step in and help a stranger in need likely prevented a much more tragic outcome, the Cape Coral Fire Department said.
