Former Lee Schools safety specialist charged with soliciting 2 children

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — A former Lee County School District safety specialist faces multiple felony charges after the Fort Myers Police Department said he sent sexually explicit messages to two students at Fort Myers Middle School.

Duane Simon of Fort Myers was arrested on Thursday by FMPD. Simon worked as a Safety and Security Specialist at Fort Myers Middle School when the alleged crimes occurred.

The Fort Myers Police Department Special Victims Unit launched an investigation in April after receiving a criminal complaint involving Simon and a student. Detectives determined Simon had been communicating with two students via text message.

Officers said the messages were sexual in nature.

Simon was transported to the Lee County Jail and charged with two counts of an authority figure soliciting a student to engage in lewd conduct, two counts of using a computer to solicit a child and two counts of solicitation of child pornography.
