LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. (WINK)—The Lee County Sheriff's Office now confirms a shooting in Lehigh Acres is being investigated as a homicide-suicide.
Two people died Wednesday afternoon at a home on West 13th Street. Crime scene investigators moved through the property, collecting evidence, documenting the scene, and piecing together what happened.
After more than 24 hours of investigating, deputies removed the crime scene tape surrounding the property. Shattered windows and a damaged door remain visible at the home.
Neighbors said they never expected something like this to happen in a community they describe as quiet and family-oriented. Many are still trying to process what happened just steps from their homes.
"You don't know at first what's going on, if somebody was being robbed or something of that nature, but once everything settles, you find out, and life goes on, and it's just a shame that it's taken so fast," Alfredo Molina said.
The sheriff's office has not released information about the people involved or what led up to the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing.
