ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings has suspended his Florida gubernatorial race on Friday following a prostate cancer diagnosis.
Demings said he intends to finish his term as mayor of Orange County.
"I intend to continue running through the finish line as the mayor of Orange County," Demings said. "I can't continue my job as mayor, take care of my family, and run for governor."
Demings was informed of his cancer diagnosis on Monday. He said he will prioritize getting healthy.
"I'm going to focus on my health," Demings said. I'm going to focus on living. I'm not going to focus on running for another office."
