Cracked beam, red braces spotted in downtown Naples parking garage

NAPLES, Fla. (WINK)—Large red steel braces have appeared inside a parking garage across from Cambier Park, raising safety concerns among downtown Naples visitors.

People parking in the garage told WINK News they were surprised to see cracks in a concrete beam and the temporary supports holding up a section of the structure. Some noticed cars parked directly underneath the damaged area.

"I think it's unsafe, and the city needs to do something about it," Daniel Reese said.

Michael Rosen expressed concern about vehicles parked beneath the braces.

"Not a good place to park your car, and then something's gonna fall on it," Rosen said. "This person's gonna file a claim against the city, it's gonna cost the taxpayers a bunch of money."

Photos show cracking along the beam, areas where concrete has broken away and temporary supports installed underneath to help carry the load. The supports include wood planks, which raised additional safety questions.

"I mean, if we got this thing sitting on wood planks, that can't be very safe, you know," Jack London said.

The damage is particularly concerning in a downtown area that attracts visitors from around the world. Reese emphasized the need for quick action.

"I would say we should try to get this type of stuff fixed as quick as possible, so we can all stay safe," Reese said.

The city of Naples told WINK News an inspection of the garage noted a crack in the beam that requires repair. The braces were installed as temporary support, and a permanent repair is scheduled for this summer.
