Fatal crash on SR 29 in Collier County kills 40-year-old man

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. (WINK)— A 40-year-old Ave Maria man died early Saturday morning after his pickup truck crossed into oncoming traffic on State Road 29 north of Interstate 75 in Collier County, according to a Florida Highway Patrol press release.

The crash happened at 2:20 a.m. when the man's 2026 Chevy Silverado was traveling north on State Road 29.

The truck entered the southbound travel lane and the front left of the Silverado collided with the left side of a 2019 Ford Fusion traveling south, the press release said.

The driver of the Silverado was pronounced dead at the scene. The 21-year-old Felda man driving the Ford Fusion and his 51-year-old passenger from Sunnyside, Washington, both suffered non-incapacitating injuries, according to FHP. Cpl. G. Zimmerly is investigating the crash.

The press release states the crash remains under investigation.
