More than 340 sea turtle nests have been documented on Sanibel and Captiva islands by the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation.
According to SCCF, its sea turtle team has documented a total of 340 loggerhead nests and two green sea turtle nests on the islands so far this nesting season.
The total number of nests is up from last year's 264 loggerhead nests to date, SCCF said. The number of nests damaged and attacked by coyotes this year is 53, which is up from 38 on the same day in 2025.
SCCF reports that the high tide at the end of May also washed out 19 nests, compared to one to date in 2025.
SCCF encourages anyone who sees issues related to nests or sea turtles to call its Sea Turtle Hotline at 978-728-3663.
