Festival Park in Cape Coral is nearing completion and is expected to open this summer after almost two years of construction.
The park, located on Wilmington Parkway, will include walking trails, an amphitheater and 10 soccer fields.
“That’s perfect, because it allows young people to practice and prepare — not just for recreational purposes, but potentially for competition at some point. And sports are important for health — both mental and physical,” said Ivonne Lopez, a Cape Coral resident of 13 years.
Drone footage from last month shows the expansive layout of Festival Park, highlighting the large areas available for sports and activities.
Lopez said the addition of the park will be a positive change for families in the area.
“There are few recreational areas here, especially considering how much the population has grown. It used to be an area for seniors, but now there are a lot of young people. With so many children, there is a need for places where they can have fun and unwind,” Lopez said.
City officials said construction is expected to be completed by the end of July.
