NORTH NAPLES, Fla. (WINK)—Two people are dead and another is being treated for gunshot wounds after a domestic shooting in a gated North Naples community.
The Collier County Sheriff's Office says they were called to Avellino Circle for a shooting Wednesday evening. Crime scene tape could be seen wrapped around condos Wednesday night in the North Naples Vineyards community.
The Collier County Sheriff's Office says they responded to a call for a shooting around 7:30 p.m. on Avellino Isles Circle. People who live nearby heard the sirens.
"I was sitting in my apartment at the Ave Maria School of Law, doing some homework, and heard a ton of cop cars and ambulances zooming by, and looked out my window, and you can see them all going past," said David Gomez, a law student.
According to the incident report, dispatch told deputies heading to the scene that a man's son had shot the man's wife and then killed himself. The report goes on to state the man "believed that his wife and son were dead, and that he had been shot in the head, shoulder, and hand."
Once on scene, deputies say a man with gunshot wounds ran out of the home and was trauma alerted to the hospital. Investigators found two others dead inside.
"To hear something this heinous and severe was nerve, nerve-rattling, to say the least," Gomez said.
Gomez says he runs by the neighborhood every day, and hearing about a shooting was a shock.
"I run past Avellino Isles literally every day, and that's what I just got finished doing. I didn't go into it this time around, but yeah, it really hit home, because this is where I live," Gomez said. "Praying for those families, praying for everybody impacted."
The Collier County Sheriff's Office says they are not looking for a shooter and there is no threat to the public. Their Major Crimes Unit is investigating.
