An Alva man was arrested on animal cruelty charges after the Lee County Sheriff's Office says he failed to get his dog veterinary care when it was hit by a car.LCSO says that on Wednesday deputies responded to the home for a domestic violence call. They say that the suspect, Michael Crandall, 28, was found hiding in a draining ditch along North River Road. Crandall's dog, named Loki, was with him. Deputies say Loki was dragging his hind legs, shaking and visibly in pain. Deputies say they learned Loki was hit by a car several days earlier, and that Crandall refused to take him to the vet for help.Loki was taken to the vet by LCSO's Animal Cruelty Task Force, where an evaluation revealed severe spinal trauma.
