A Gulf Coast family is going above and beyond to find a forever home for a dog who was abandoned in Lee County, and they're getting a little help from Cape Coral firefighters. They're now calling the dog Tank.Maria Vecchio said her family took the dog in after her son witnessed someone dumping him in a Lee County neighborhood. He was severely underweight but has since been medically evaluated and is doing better. Vecchio said they have other small rescue dogs. For now, Tank spends many of his days hanging out at the Cape Coral fire station where her husband works. They say Tank is an American bully/pit mix who's super sweet and loves people, and now they're hoping to find someone to adopt him. Vecchio works with several local animal rescues and can be contacted at 239-293-0276.DOWNLOAD the free Gulf Coast News app for your latest news and alerts on breaking news, weather, sports, entertainment, and more on your phone or tablet.
