SOUTHWEST FLORIDA (WINK) — This weekend is shaping up to be a classic Southwest Florida summer pattern, and if you've lived here long enough, you already know the drill.
Mornings will feature isolated showers and storms closer to the coast through lunchtime. As westerly winds pick up, that activity will push inland, east of I-75, for the afternoon and evening. As things settle down each evening, a few storms could wander back toward the coast, so keep that umbrella handy even after dinner. Expect the same story today, Saturday, and Sunday.
With all that tropical moisture still locked in, any storm that does fire up could produce locally heavy rain.
Great news on the drought front. Recent rainfall has helped our drought conditions across SWFL, dropping many communities by one category from "extreme" to "severe" drought. Rainy season is making progress!
Highs will be in the lower 90s all weekend, but factor in the sticky humidity and it's going to feel closer to the upper 90s. Stay hydrated out there.
Heading into early next week, slightly drier air aloft should take some of the steam out of the rain chances overall. That said, if you live inland, afternoons will still bring the threat of showers and thunderstorms, so don't put that umbrella away just yet.
