ESTERO, Fla. (WINK) — The Florida Everblades are heading to Kansas City with a shot at the Kelly Cup.
After a big win in Game 5 Saturday night, fans gathered outside Hertz Arena Sunday morning to send the team off before they boarded a shuttle bus to the airport.
Supporters showed up wearing green and white, holding signs, taking photos and cheering on the team.
Among those in the crowd were Murray Kyte and Kathy McCann-Kyte, parents of Everblades player Patrick Kyte.
“We wanted to be here to cheer and support the team and our son. Very proud of the team,” Murray Kyte said.
The Kytes said the experience of watching their son play in Florida and seeing the support from fans has been something special.
“We’re from Canada. Hockey is part of our DNA. Coming to Florida and seeing 7,000 fans waving their towels, it was just an unbelievable experience,” Murray Kyte said.
McCann-Kyte shared that same excitement for everyone involved with the team.
“It’s been wonderful. Just really excited for everyone on the team, the coaches, the trainers and the staff,” McCann-Kyte said.
