A report of a swerving Jeep on Cape Coral Parkway led to the DUI arrests of two men after officers said they watched the pair switch driving roles at a gas station before stopping the vehicle. On Friday, Cape Coral police said someone reported seeing a white Jeep Gladiator driving recklessly and nearly hitting other vehicles on the roadway. An officer located the vehicle parked at a 7-Eleven near the intersection of Palm Tree Boulevard and Cape Coral Parkway. According to the Cape Coral Police Department, the officer saw Andrew Konchek III, 41, exit the passenger seat, move into the driver's seat, and drive the Jeep to another gas pump before returning to the passenger seat.Police said the second man, later identified as Kevin Reardon, 37, hopped into the driver's seat and drove away from the gas station. An officer followed the vehicle and reportedly saw it was weaving out of its lane, drifting into the bike lane twice, and nearly hit the sidewalk before a traffic stop was conducted on SE 1st Place. The officer made contact with Reardon and determined there was no medical emergency or mechanical issue with the vehicle, but noted that there was a "strong odor" of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle, according to CCPD. Reardon reportedly told the officer that he was coming from home before he was asked to exit the vehicle. According to the CCPD news release, Reardon was unsteady on his feet and exhibited bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred speech. The officer asked Reardon to participate in field sobriety evaluations, and he agreed, CCPD said. Reardon was arrested for DUI based on the investigation and received another charge for refusing to submit to a breath test, according to police.CCPD said that because Konchek was seen driving the vehicle in the 7-Eleven parking lot, a second officer initiated a DUI investigation and asked him to participate in field sobriety evaluations, which Konchek agreed to do.Konchek was then arrested for DUI as well. According to CCPD, Konchek tensed his arms and resisted being handcuffed and argued with officers about being arrested.Police said Konchek was taken to the ground and faces an additional charge of resisting arrest without violence. Konchek was also arrested on one count of refusing to submit to DUI testing.DOWNLOAD the free Gulf Coast News app for your latest news and alerts on breaking news, weather, sports, entertainment, and more on your phone or tablet.
