NAPLES, Fla. (WINK) — What started as a dream to bring authentic Italian flavors to Southwest Florida has grown into a beloved Naples destination.
In 2026, Mercato Italiano is celebrating five years of serving the community with traditional Italian cuisine, imported specialty products and a welcoming atmosphere that transports visitors straight to Italy. Located in downtown Naples, the family-owned market, café and bakery has become a gathering place for locals and tourists looking to experience a taste of authentic Italian culture.
Founded by Sicilian native Valerio and Luca Di Falco and their families, Mercato Italiano was created to share the flavors and traditions they grew up with. Over the past five years, the business has built a loyal following through its selection of imported Italian products, fresh pastries, espresso drinks, paninis and homemade meals inspired by recipes from across Italy.
For Valerio Di Falco, this Italian market is more than just about the imported goods, " This is a family business. My brother and I opened up this restaurant. My nieces come into the shop to help. We use our mom's almond cookie recipe. Family is huge in Italy and here in our restaurant too," he said.
Walking through the doors, guests are greeted by shelves stocked with imported goods, the aroma of freshly brewed espresso and displays filled with pastries, breads and desserts, "I opened up this restaurant because I couldn't find these goods in any of the Italian restaurants or markets nearby. So, I decided to fix the problem. Most of these things in the store you can't find anywhere else in Southwest Florida," said Di Falco.
What started as a dream to bring authentic Italian flavors to Southwest Florida has grown into a beloved Naples destination.
As the business marks its fifth anniversary, the milestone is an opportunity to celebrate not only the growth of the market but also the community that has supported it along the way, " If you have five year here it means you're doing well. I like working with the locals, they're amazing," said Di Falco.
What began as a small family venture has become a place where friends gather over cappuccinos, families enjoy authentic Italian meals and visitors discover new flavors from across the Mediterranean.
Five years later, Mercato Italiano continues to stay true to its mission: bringing a little piece of Italy to Southwest Florida, one espresso, pastry and plate of pasta at a time.
