SARASOTA, Fla. (WINK) — The Sarasota Police Department is reminding motorists to be mindful of road safety, using a near-crash involving two cars at an intersection as an example.
The police department posted on its Facebook account, leading with “Come on now—We really shouldn’t have to post this video, but here we are.” showcasing a driver ignoring the red light at the intersection of N. Washington Blvd. (U.S. 301) and 12th Street on June 13.
Sarasota police noted that throughout the video, the red traffic light remained red, dispelling any doubt that the signal had just transitioned from yellow to red.
After the encounter, police said the registered owner of the blue car received a notice of violation for running a red light.
Ending their post, Sarasota police stated that “Traffic signals are not suggestions. Red means stop. Green means go. Slow down, pay attention, and drive safely.”
