COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — Illegal immigrants detained at Alligator Alcatraz have been moved from the facility, according to the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which confirmed the information to WINK News on Tuesday.
WINK News anchor Claire Galt reached out to ICE and received a statement that the detainees were removed from the soft-sided facility for their safety, ahead of hurricane season.
“As we enter into hurricane season, ICE and the state of Florida have moved illegal aliens from the soft sided facility. For the safety of the illegal alien detainees, we transferred them to other facilities," an ICE official told WINK News.
This comes after talks began last month on winding down operations at the controversial facility.
Alligator Alcatraz opened early July of 2025 during hurricane season.
WINK News has reached out for more information and will provide updates as they become available.
