Bowditch Point Park in Fort Myers Beach has not been the same since Hurricane Ian, and county leaders are now considering a nearly $4 million project to fully restore the park. The proposed multimillion-dollar contract would focus on restoring the 17-acre beachfront destination at the northern tip of the island. If approved, the project would repair park buildings, boardwalks, sidewalks, parking areas, picnic spaces, trails, beach access points, and shelters that were damaged or destroyed by the storm. The plan also includes replacing the park's 10-slip boat dock and making improvements designed to increase safety and accessibility for visitors. County leaders said the goal isn't just to rebuild what was lost but to help bring the park back better than before as Fort Myers Beach continues its long recovery. Residents in the area said this project is a long time coming.DOWNLOAD the free Gulf Coast News app for your latest news and alerts on breaking news, weather, sports, entertainment, and more on your phone or tablet.
