SOUTHWEST FLORIDA, Fla. (WINK) — A disturbance in the northwestern Gulf is being closely monitored as it moves near the Texas and Mexico border.
According to the National Hurricane Center, an area of low pressure known as Tropical Wave Invest AL90 continues to produce a large region of disorganized showers and thunderstorms. The disturbance is expected to move over the northwestern Gulf today, where environmental conditions could allow it to briefly organize into a tropical depression or tropical storm Arthur over the next 24 hours. For that reason, the National Hurricane Center is monitoring the need for tropical storm watches and warnings across portions of the northern Gulf.
Regardless of whether Tropical Storm Arthur forms, the greatest concern will be heavy rainfall across parts of Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Several rounds of intense rain could lead to widespread flash flooding, urban flooding, and river flooding. Gusty winds and coastal flooding are also possible along portions of the northwestern Gulf Coast.
While this system is not expected to impact Florida, WINK News Weather Authority Meteorologists will continue to monitor this disturbance and all tropical developments across the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Gulf throughout the 2026 hurricane season.
