FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. (WINK) — Multiple law enforcement agencies are on scene conducting a search for a person presumed to be in the water.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, and the United States Coast Guard are on scene, combing the waters near Carlos Pointe for a person believed to have called for help while in the ocean.
WINK News contacted the law enforcement agencies for more information regarding this scene. Lee County deputies say they are on a call where a person on the beach thought they heard someone yelling for help, and Marine, Aviation, and ground deputies are on scene, saturating the area.
Coast Guard responded with “(A) Search is still underway. Aviation is responding, and there are divers in the water.”
FWC officials added that the report was from someone on the beach reporting someone in the water who went under and did not come back up; however, they believe they have not substantiated that someone is missing and are treating it as if someone is, just in case.
WINK News reporter Brinkley Hill is on the scene gathering information and providing updates whenever they become available.
