WINK News Weather Authority Meteorologists are continuing to monitor Potential Tropical Cyclone One as it moves along the Texas coastline. While this system poses no direct threat to Southwest Florida, it serves as a reminder that the Weather Authority is tracking all tropical activity across the Atlantic Basin throughout hurricane season.
As of Wednesday morning, the low-pressure system is moving offshore the Middle Texas Coast. Despite producing tropical-storm-force winds offshore, the system has struggled to organize due to strong upper-level wind shear. Thunderstorms associated with the disturbance remain displaced well east of the center, preventing it from developing the structure needed to become a fully classified tropical depression or tropical storms.
While the chances of tropical cyclone formation appear to be decreasing, as the center spends limited time over water and continues to battle unfavorable atmospheric conditions, there is still the possibility it develops into Tropical Depression One and strengthens into Tropical Storm Arthur today.
Even if the system never earns a tropical designation, impacts are already occurring. The National Hurricane Center warns that heavy rainfall and life-threatening flash flooding will be the primary hazards through Thursday across portions of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, southwestern Georgia, and the Florida Panhandle. Some areas could continue to experience flooding concerns into the weekend.
For Southwest Florida, no impacts are expected from this system. However, WINK News Weather Authority Meteorologists will continue tracking Potential Tropical Cyclone One and all tropical developments throughout the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, bringing you the latest updates as conditions evolve. Beyond on coverage on air and online, you can catch the latest each day at 12:35 PM with WINK Tracks the tropics on Facebook, YouTube and WINKNews.com.
