A masked burglar broke into San Carlos Supermercado by cutting a hole in the roof, stealing thousands of dollars and attempting to remove a safe before fleeing the same way.Security cameras captured the moment the burglar dropped from the ceiling after cutting a large hole in the roof of the store. "I was just like, there's Spider-Man coming in and out. It was just crazy. Like, I cannot believe how somebody just did that," said Lizeth Luna, owner of San Carlos Supermercado. Luna said she was in disbelief when she walked into the store Friday morning and saw the aftermath. "I was robbed. I was, like, in shock. I was like, oh my gosh. I'm like, I got to call 911," she said. According to Luna, the intruder crawled through the store, bypassing sensors and alarms. "I'm walking into my register area. The doors opened, and all my registers on the floor," Luna said. The burglar also broke into the store's check-cashing stand, stealing thousands of dollars. "He used this to wrap the safe, and then he put like a wire and stuff like that," Luna said, describing how the thief attempted to lift the store's safe through the roof using a blanket. Luna said the burglar tried to open the safe using various items, including a spoon, pot, and knife, but was unsuccessful. "He attempted to take my safe after trying to get into my safe with the spoon, a pot, a knife. He tried to open my safe and couldn't do it," Luna said. After failing to open or remove the safe, the intruder fled through the same hole in the roof. "It was horrible. You know, somebody came in, invaded my privacy, invaded my business," Luna said. The Lee County Sheriff's Office said there are no leads at this time.DOWNLOAD the free Gulf Coast News app for your latest news and alerts on breaking news, weather, sports, entertainment, and more on your phone or tablet.
