SOUTHWEST FLORIDA (WINK) - Animals at Naples Zoo may be used to warm climates, but Southwest Florida's summer heat still means extra steps are taken to help them stay comfortable.
The zoo is home to species from regions with climates similar to Southwest Florida, and many are naturally adapted to warm, tropical conditions.
To support the animals' comfort and well-being during the summer months, the zoo provides a variety of cooling opportunities, including fans, pools, sprinklers, shaded areas and ice-based enrichment treats.
During periods of extreme heat or humidity, some animals may also be given access to indoor habitats or night houses as needed.
According to Naples Zoo, animal care and veterinary teams make those decisions on an individual basis, taking into account each animal's species, age, health and overall well-being.
