A teen was arrested on Wednesday after being accused of damaging a Punta Gorda barbershop by shooting at it with a BB gun.According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, officers with the Punta Gorda Police Department responded to Captain Bill's Barber Shop on June 8. The owner told them that when he arrived at the barber shop that morning, he noticed damage to three of the barber poles as well as damage to the sign on the front of the building.The damage to the signs and poles resembled small holes consistent with a BB gun, CCSO said. The damage was estimated to total $1,800.An employee also told officers that they found a CO2 canister in the parking lot on June 6.Surveillance footage of June 6 was collected from nearby businesses. The footage showed a suspect wearing a black hoodie arriving at the 7-Eleven on Tamiami Trail at around 1:50 a.m. The suspect was dropped off by what appeared to be a rideshare vehicle, CCSO said.The suspect then walked into the 7-Eleven and purchased a pink energy drink. While making the purchase, the suspect pulled his mask down, revealing his face, CCSO said.Video then showed the suspect leave the 7-Eleven and walk past the Goodwill next door before entering the parking lot of Captain Bill's Barber Shop, CCSO said. He is then seen pulling out an item and pointing it at the building multiple times.He then lingered in the parking lot for about 20 minutes before he was picked up by another rideshare vehicle, CCSO said. An empty pink energy drink can with a projectile through it was located in the parking lot.Deputies contacted Uber and were able to confirm that two Uber rides took place during the time frame matching the security camera footage, CCSO said. Uber provided deputies with the identity of the passenger, Joseph Kaferle, 18.Kaferle was positively identified as the suspect seen in the security camera footage and was arrested, CCSO said.
