CAPE CORAL, Fla. — The Cape Coral Rowing Club says its temporary facility was targeted in an apparent burglary during the early morning hours Thursday.
According to a Facebook post from the Cape Coral Rowing Club, a couple of people drove a work barge to the club's dock and spray-painted over a security camera and motion-detecting dock light before carrying out the theft.
The nonprofit organization said marine batteries were stolen from its safety boats and that an enclosed trailer and storage shed were broken into.
The Cape Coral Police Department confirmed to WINK News that it is actively investigating the incident.
"After almost 20 years of quietly and successfully serving our community without incident, our temporary facility was violated by burglars in the early hours of the morning," the club said.
The club also said its cameras captured the boat and its captain before the camera was spray-painted.
WINK News has reached out to the Cape Coral Police Department and the Cape Coral Rowing Club for additional information and will update this story as more details become available.
