The Florida Department of Health in Lee County has issued a water quality advisory for LCSP-7 Sanibel Causeway, located at 19931 Sanibel Causeway, after tests revealed elevated levels of enterococcus bacteria. Tests completed June 17, 2026, indicate that the water quality at this location does not meet the recreational water quality criteria recommended by the Florida Department of Health. DOH-Lee said, "You should avoid doing anything in the water because you have a higher chance of feeling ill." Sampling conducted during regular water quality monitoring showed that the level of bacteria exceeds the level established by state guidelines. This advisory will remain in effect until bacteria levels are below the accepted health level.
