Heading to the beach to beat the heat? Before you go, here's what you need to know.
A high risk for rip currents is in place from Tampa Bay down to Bonita Springs. Coastal Collier County has a lower threat level, but beachgoers everywhere should stay alert.
The WINK Weather Authority confirmed rip currents at local beaches yesterday. They're especially common near passes, where water flows between back-bays and the Gulf.
If you get caught in a rip current:
Since most local beaches don't have lifeguards, always swim with a buddy, never alone.
The good news: Rip current risk is expected to drop to "low" for the holiday weekend.
