FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — The heat didn't stop the party in downtown Fort Myers.
Despite triple-digit feels-like temperatures, people still showed up for Music Walk, finding creative ways to stay cool while enjoying the night out.
A couple told WINK News they spent most of the day in the pool before heading downtown.
"We were in the pool most of the day, had a few beers and then came downtown. You just have to find some shade and take your time," the couple said.
Hannah Bennett at Scoops on First said the heat kept foot traffic low earlier in the day.
"The heat advisory is no joke. It feels terrible out there," said Bennett. "I've noticed a lot less foot traffic. I mean, I wouldn't want to walk around in 100-degree weather either."
But as the sun went down, the crowds came back.
"Art and music walk are always a big hit," Bennett said.
Kids at the event had their own game plan for beating the heat.
"What I did to like not get hot is go to ice cream. There's an ice cream shop and then go in the pool with another one and wear like short sleeves and like short pants. Like, don't wear like long like things, like you will die," one child said.
Doctors told WINK News earlier this week that the best way to prepare for outdoor activities is to pre-hydrate, replace electrolytes and take breaks from the heat.
Even with the heat lingering well into the night, the crowds at Music Walk showed it takes more than high temperatures to keep Fort Myers from having a good time.
