Happy Father’s Day and happy first day of the summer solstice! Expect plenty of sunshine today, with afternoon highs climbing into the low to mid-90s. While "feels-like" temperatures are expected to stay just below National Weather Service Heat Advisory criteria, it will still feel quite hot and humid, with heat index values reaching the triple digits.
As for rain chances, inland communities have the best opportunity to see showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Some of the stronger storms could produce frequent lightning, so be sure to keep an eye on the sky if you have outdoor plans.
Looking ahead to Monday, temperatures will soar into the mid to upper 90s, bringing us close to record-high territory during the afternoon.
Scattered thunderstorms return to the forecast, with around 40% coverage expected across Southwest Florida. That pattern continues through much of the week, with daily storm chances and above-average temperatures remaining in place.
The good news in the tropics: no tropical development is expected over the next seven days. Hurricane season continues through November 30, leaving 162 days to go...and counting!
For boaters, winds will remain light out of the south before shifting west at 5 to 10 knots. Gulf wave heights will run between 1 and 2 feet, and water temperatures remain exceptionally warm at 89 degrees.
