FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — The Fort Myers Police Department is investigating a swatting call after a reported bomb threat caused law enforcement to close several roads downtown as a precaution.
On Monday, Fort Myers police swarmed First Street near the Luminary Hotel, evacuating nearby businesses as a precaution while they conducted their investigation.
Police then determined that the initial bomb threat was a SWAT call, and that while there is no active threat to the public at this time, their investigation remains active and ongoing.
Fort Myers police initially confirmed with WINK News that law enforcement was called to investigate a bomb threat in the downtown Fort Myers area.
At 5:30 p.m., police reopened the roadways, restoring normal traffic flow. No further information has been shared regarding the SWAT call.
